Scott Kenan I was a freshman when we SHUT DOWN Denison for BLACK DEMANDS that spring, 1970, and BEFORE THEN drove in U-Haul vans -- packed in the icy backs of them -- to the protests in Washington, DC over the Vietnam War!!! We even marched all the way to the State House in Columbus for a Protest!!!

Madina Khudaynazar That’s amazing! I feel like Denison is falling into a haze of over-productivity and student isolation. In 07’ there was a huge shutdown as well due to hate crimes and Racial incidents. We need another shutdown!

Scott Kenan I also started the FIRST GAY GROUP at Denison University in fall 1972 -- even did a LIVE WDUB call-in interview show with Dean Hansell, who went on to co-found GLAAD, has served as Illinois Asst. Attorney General, Police Commissioner of Los Angeles, now a Judge on CA Superior Court (and previously a Denison Trustee) -- but while The Denisonian ALLOWS me to comment on Facebook, Denison University BANNED ME from doing that several years ago. Rico Rico Scott Kenan I was the student who did all the archiving for the Queer studies department. I don’t believe I ever saw your name in reference to GLAAD. Some things aren’t adding up.

Scott Kenan @Rico Rico: I am SHOCKED that anyone associated with Denison University has such LOW READING SKILLS!!! I have never had to do with GLAAD, nor did I claim that -- GLAAD is NOT a Denison Org, but national. Dean Hansell set up the fall '72 Denison meeting when he was President of DCA, but did NOT come out until a year later. Only James Culver Anderson '74, Burt Bennett III '74 (now a married with kids psychologist in Winston-Salem, NC -- his family controls Shell Oil distribution in NC, while mine controls all of Exxon-Mobil, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, etc.), and I showed up, and I took charge. Some guy put together a production of 45 minutes taped interview with us followed by 45 min. of live call in (NO negative calls at all), over WDUB. Funniest, is that I INSISTED on using a lot of Elton John songs interspersed with it -- the others ALL insisting Elton was NOT GAY (he came out later). BUT -- since you are such a great archivist of Gay matters, I'm sure you know that Elton John LOST ALL HIS GAY CRED at my Kenan family's entirely owned The Breakers Palm Beach -- when he sang at Drug-Rush Limbaugh's FOURTH serial wedding -- HA!!!
