HISTORY
51 mins ·

75 years ago on this #ThisDayinHistory 1945, hundreds of Allied bombers descended on Dresden in two waves, dropping their lethal cargo indiscriminately over the city. By February 15, the city was a smoldering ruin and an unknown number of civilians—estimated at somewhere between 35,000 and 135,000–were dead.

Before World War II, Dresden was called “the Florence of the Elbe” and was regarded as one the world’s most beautiful cities for its architecture and museums. American author Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007), who was a prisoner of war in Dresden during the Allied attack and tackled the controversial event in his book “Slaughterhouse-Five,” said of postwar Dresden, “It looked a lot like Dayton, Ohio, more open spaces than Dayton has. There must be tons of human bone meal in the ground.”

TODAY, I got to see that my posting of last night went to the MOST HIT posting of the last weekhttps://theweathercontinues.blogspot.com/2020/02/silent-sam-deal-with-sons-of.html

But largely because RUSSIANS, who'd been hitting only 10 - 20 times per day the last several days, hit it HUNDREDS OF TIMES -- MORE than Americans did!!!

And in the last hour, it was PASSED IN POPULARITY by my Letter to my distant Kenan cousin Bonnie Weyher and her husband Dan McLamb:

And here are Mr. McLamb's:

But the US Postal Service's TRACKING shows that my Letter had been SCHEDULED for delivery on Wednesday, 2/12 (yesterday), went first to Charlotte as all of Wilmington's mail does, was sent to Raleigh Distribution Center, but from THERE, it went to Greensboro, NC's Distribution Center -- was sent RIGHT BACK to Raleigh's Distribution Center -- and then arrived at Bonnie's zip-code's Post Office, arriving at 9:03 AM yesterday, and has been "out for delivery" since then.

NOW, it is 5:44 PM of THE NEXT DAY, and it still has NOT been put into Yates. McLamb & Weyher's POST OFFICE BOX!!!

Worse, I CANNOT get through on the phone to my primary care physician, Dewey Bridger III -- and they DO NOT get messages I leave on their voicemail!!!

I blame the CHRISTIAN CIA!!! But I can't PROVE that.

>>> BUT FUNNIEST IS WHAT'S HAPPENED HERE ON SPOFFORD CIRCLE:

"Cheese" (a neutered orange-stripy male cat, who might be more appropriately named "Cheddar"), who belongs to Allie Ryan upstairs and had gotten out with no one home there all day, ran into my apartment the moment I opened my door -- without my seeing him there. He rubbed around my ankles so persistently that I feared tripping, and he was CRYING, so I sat down on my desk chair.

Cheese immediately jumped up on my desk and sat on my keyboard -- purring wildly. So I picked him up and kept petting him as he continued purring. Then, he suddenly BIT my hand, and reached up and SCRATCHED MY NOSE, so I simply turned, opened the storm-door, and tossed him out -- he also drawing blood several places on my two hands and wrists.

This is the way with many cats, if they don't know you well, and he drew very little blood, and I REALLY had to laugh more at myself.

Then John Gray Hunter came out on his deck and told me that today Cheese had also bullied his way into Gray's apartment -- and cat-slashed him, similarly -- HA!!!

Now, last night, Robert James McKinney (called "Rob"), from apartment One, was placing his trash in my container. I asked him WHY (he's had his OWN garbage and recyclables rolling bins), and he said his had DISAPPEARED, which I quickly confirmed. Rob hasn't paid his combined water, sewer, and trash collection bill in MONTHS and has not had water for all that time. The City had finally picked up his trash bins -- since he pays nothing toward any of it. Rob claimed the bill is now well over $200.00, and he can't afford to pay it.

Gray and I were talking about this, and Gray offered that Rob can SHOWER in his apartment (so he can service Rob's wienie -- which I would never do -- because Rob is always so STINKY!!!).

Well, maybe not after a shower, but Rob is NOT MY TYPE, but at least he's a RELIABLE, REASONABLE, and CONVENIENT DRUG-SELLER -- although all I've ever bought from him is pot.

>>> AND FINALLY, REFUSED TO SHARE MY HIGH-SCHOOL FRIEND BOB JONES'S FACEBOOK POSTING, but decided to post it on the bottom of this posting for anyone who DOESN'T know about this:

The Social Security check is now (or soon will be) referred to as a "Federal Benefit Payment?" I'll be part of the one percent to forward this. I am forwarding it because it touches a nerve in me, and I hope it will in you. Please keep passing it on until everyone in our country has read it.
The government is now referring to our Social Security checks as a "Federal Benefit Payment." This isn't a benefit. It is our money paid out of our earned income! Not only did we all contribute to Social Security but our employers did too. It totaled 15% of our income before taxes.
If you averaged $30K per year over your working life, that's close to $180,000 invested in Social Security.
If you calculate the future value of your monthly investment in social security ($375/month, including both you and your employers contributions) at a meager 1% interest rate compounded monthly, after 40 years of working you'd have more than $1.3+ million dollars saved!
This is your personal investment. Upon retirement, if you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $39,318 per year, or $3,277 per month.
That's almost three times more than today's average Social Security benefit of $1,230 per month, according to the Social Security Administration. (Google it – it’s a fact).
And your retirement fund would last more than 33 years (until you're 98 if you retire at age 65)! I can only imagine how much better most average-income people could live in retirement if our government had just invested our money in low-risk interest-earning accounts.
Instead, the folks in Washington pulled off a bigger "Ponzi scheme" than Bernie Madoff ever did. They took our money and used it elsewhere. They forgot (oh yes, they knew) that it was OUR money they were taking. They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them. And they didn't pay interest on the debt they assumed. And recently they've told us that the money won't support us for very much longer.
But is it our fault they misused our investments? And now, to add insult to injury, they're calling it a "benefit", as if we never worked to earn every penny of it.
Just because they borrowed the money doesn't mean that our investments were a charity!
Let's take a stand. We have earned our right to Social Security and Medicare. Demand that our legislators bring some sense into our government.
Find a way to keep Social Security and Medicare going for the sake of that 92% of our population who need it.
Then call it what it is: Our Earned Retirement Income.
99% of people won't forward this. Will you?
Comments

  • Scott Kenan No, I won't forward it because anyone who is educated already knows Social Security is something we paid into to get retirement benefits at 65 -- which has been raised at least onceThose who don't know it don't WANT to know it. And the Press has repeatedly reported that the Government RAIDED the Social Security Trust Fund with no intentions of repaying it (the Republicans, primarily), to pay for UNFUNDED WARS!!! But bottom line, they still OWE US our FULL BENEFITS. And NOW, thanks to Ronald Reagan and HIS cronies, Social Security Benefits are TAXED when they pay them to us!!!
Image may contain: 1 person, meme, possible text that says 'In 1984 I lowered the top income tax rate from 70% to 28%. Then I imposed the first ever income tax on social security benefits to make up for it.'
