WILMINGTON — Since closing his doors, Cadillac Custom Tattoo & Piercing owner Bryan Michael has received a few late-night texts asking for appointments.
They aren’t frivolous, “I need new ink” messages. Rather, it’s “If I don’t’ get new ink soon, I may hurt myself.”
That might sound extreme — but Michael says his shop frequently works with people that struggle with self-harm who turn to tattoos as a safe alternative to hurting themselves.
Normally, the 3 a.m. conversation would lead to a same-day appointment. “‘Hey, I’m stuck at home, I’m going through this, when can you get me in?'” Michael said these clients ask him. “I try not to say no. I try to say, the second that we’re open, those people are our priorities.”
The inability to book clients struggling with self-harm has been the most difficult part of quarantine orders, Michael said.

I don't know why this meme from Meryl Streep has shown up near the top of my Facebook feed for nearly a week, now -- but yesterday I saved it.
Readers know that of all the "known" people still alive -- whom I knew while working for Tennessee Williams -- Meryl Streep tops the list. But I have never tried to recontact Ms. Streep. Now, a couple of days ago when I was searching for Landlady Gold Walker's CORRECT email address to send her this: https://theweathercontinues.blogspot.com/2020/04/my-email-sent-to-landlady-gold-walker.html, I chanced on the last name of the Psychologist who lives directly behind my old apartment on South Fourth Street, and although Ben was never my psychologist, we often "chewed the fat", and I learned from him that I am SANE and his opinion KEPT ME SANE -- until I was more adept at being MY OWN PSYCHOLOGIST.
Psychologist Ben made for GREAT EYE-CANDY, too, and when shirtless, revealed an EXCELLENT chest-hair pattern and NOT AN OUNCE OF FAT!!!
BUT, I like Ben's wife -- and he has two daughters -- so I never made a pass at him (like I did Psychiatrists Douglas Waldrep and Hans Stelmach the last time I was committed BRIEFLY to New Hanover Behavioral Health Hospital -- but learned that THEY TOO, are happily married to women).
It was Dr. Frederick H. Opper, who committed me that time while I was knocked out for the Colonoscopy he was performing on me -- due to the HEARSAY of the Christian Bitches in his office, who had not wanted to HEAR about how Christian Churches and Clergy run much of the Hard Drugs in Wilmington.

What is also so funny about Psychologist Ben, is that my downstairs neighbor much of that time, Denise Renee Wood, the 6' 3" then 43-year-old FORMER International Drug Mule, who had 43 Felony and fewer Misdemeanor CONVICTIONS (and kept two loaded revolvers in her apartment -- she never had Gun Rights removed after all of those Drug Felonies), was the FIRST person who told me that her good friend Mayor "Bill" Saffo LOVED YOUNG GUYS, but she was TOTALLY SMITTEN with the hunky Psychologist Ben.
