Lots of groups are sharing what they're thankful for today. And sure, we're grateful to have you as a friend and supporter. And we're thankful that this year Congress passed the first, biggest, and only climate bill in US history.  But we're not feeling thankful for President Biden's climate leadership this week, and you shouldn't feel that way either. Last week, as the UN climate conference COP27 was wrapping up, the US finally came out in support of a (weak, watered down, blah, blah, blah) phase out of fossil fuels.   One day later they approved the massive Commonwealth LNG export terminal in Louisiana - Commonwealth won't even start shipping gas until 2027, about the time President Biden says we need to start winding down all fossil fuel use. But when it does it will export 8.4 million tons a year of fossil fuel fracked gas.   Then, on Monday of this week, Biden's Maritime Administration approved the massive Sea Port Export Terminal off the coast of Texas. SPOT is the big, floating, oil export terminal we've been fighting for more than a year that will load supertankers with 2 million barrels of domestic crude oil every day for global export. Read more about it in our blog post here. This is an abject breakdown of climate leadership from the Biden administration – but the fight is not over. The companies behind SPOT still have to apply for other state and federal permits, submit detailed construction plans, and more before MARAD issues the license. You can still send a letter to President Biden telling him to intervene and reject the project along with our allies at People vs Fossil Fuels.    You can also help amplify our opposition to SPOT using this toolkit.
