Yesterday morning, I read the first chapter of Christopher Castellani's Leading Men -- a novel about the romance between Tennessee Williams and Frank Merlo, which in the reading was much like LIVING IN A DREAM. The prose was more a cavalcade of sensory images than it was like a narrative -- and it was TRUE!!!

And in that first chapter, Castellani either mentioned or introduced as characters SEVERAL PEOPLE I KNEW -- including Truman Capote and some Kennedys (see here: https://laterdaysoftennesseewilliams.blogspot.com/2013/10/chapter-23-uptown-soiree.html), Rose Williams (https://laterdaysoftennesseewilliams.blogspot.com/2013/10/chapter-13-cold-canyons.html), and Maureen Stapleton (https://laterdaysoftennesseewilliams.blogspot.com/2013/10/chapter-7-dinner-at-seven-thirty.html).

ALL of these mentions in Castellani's book rang as TRUE CHARACTERIZATIONS -- which reminded me of my FAVE Williams Scholar's, Kenneth Holditch's, blurb for my own book -- when HE knew many of MY characters:

I was surprised to see Larry King back in the News tonight, and sadly so -- for the reason. I never met Dakin Williams until many years later at the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival -- where Thomas Elliot Keith and the staff always RIDICULED DAKIN because he had published in his memoir that the Episcopal Church/Sewanee had murdered his brother -- and because Dakin was ADMITTEDLY CRAZY!!!

One year, Dakin came in drag to the festival as Blanche DuBois -- and was the Judge of the annual Stella-Hollering contest -- its closing event!!!

However, once back on his feet, Tennessee never studied or practiced the faith, and was, if anything, Episcopalian. He had told friends that he wanted his body cremated and his ashes scattered at sea—in the Gulf of Mexico where Hart Crane had committed suicide years before.
