TOP political cartoon on FoxNews online this morning!!!
Although Fox knows better, Barack Obama is NOT a "THICK-LIPPED, blue-nosed NIGGER" -- like they prefer to portray him ("blue-nosed nigger" was one of the most popular labels for blacks by racists when I was growing up in the 1950s and 60s -- so Fox TAILORS its Racism in terms that are understood by older people -- but escape scrutiny by younger people), and with all the current problems at Fox, you'd think they would STOP being BLATANTLY RACIST -- and calling it CHRISTIAN!!!
A conceptual-art project that includes plans to burn and bury Confederate flags in 13 mostly Southern states on Memorial Day has drawn the ire of groups such as the Sons of Confederate Veterans that consider the events disrespectful and divisive.
And although this is going on in 13 states, another Scott-Kenan-seems-connected-to-too-many-people-and-events thing, is that my old Congressman Cooter (aka Democrat Ben Jones), is right in the THICK of it!!!
Some groups that cherish the Confederate flag reacted angrily to news of Mr. Sims’s project. “This is not only terribly offensive, but astonishingly idiotic,” said Ben Jones, a former Democratic congressman from Georgia and spokesman for the Sons of Confederate Veterans. “This sort of thing merely inflames old divisions.” Mr. Jones said he had a message for Mr. Sims: “For every flag he burns and buries, we will put 10 more up.”
>>> SOME WILL BE SURPRISED BY THIS, but I LARGELY agree with Ben Jones. Where I STRONGLY disagree is with his choice of Confederate flag to hold as symbol of the Heritage.
The Flag used by racists is the Battle Flag or Navy Jack -- and it is NOW effectively completely co-opted by RACISTS. The "good guys" let them get away with it and did NOT stop them from using it, so even though you love that flag you MUST get over it. Choose another one, and I recommend the Stars and Bars.
I actually bought a beautifully framed Stars and Bars flag from the owner of Stone Mountain Old Post Office Emporium in 2008 for $500.00. It was a new flag, but perfectly distressed by an award-winning fabric distresser, signed with all the info on back. A year later, I got the idea I should present it to Thomas S. Kenan III as a gift in appreciation for the William R. Kenan, Jr. Foundation giving Denison University the second largest gift in a campaign to increase the endowment for scholarships in 1974 or so -- as well as the wealthy Kenans being such support of University Education in general.
So when I fled Georgia in 2010, it was one of the essentials that I fit into my car, leaving all but another car-load in storage with Hilda Wells (which I picked up late 2012 -- missing the 30 day Window of Service of Saper Law/Jamie Sutherland's LIBEL lawsuit, which I emailed and left voice-mails letting them know that and that I'd be there to get it properly if re-issued -- but they chose not to do that and went to trial IN ABSENTIA)
Anyway, it made it intact all the way to Puerto Vallarta without the glass breaking -- through many moves and three homeless months in Puerto Vallarta -- then back to Wilmington in 2011. And then I sold it for $500.00, less consignment commission for it -- and possibly actually bought BY -- dealer Charles Adams -- due to my financial desperation -- LOL!!!
And my old Uck-Fay Ud-Bay, Kyle Johnson worked for that same Charles Adams -- even living in his house -- shortly before next-door antiques dealer, Michael Moore -- a self-described Republican who FIERCELY supports Democrat District Attorney Benjamin R. David (see: http://scottkenan.blogspot.mx/2013/04/repost-da-ben-davids-boyfriend-lee.html), that Kyle had disappeared a couple of months before -- and was assumed murdered by Drug Mafia.
But back to what I AGREE with Ben Jones about: ALL Southerners are NOT racists -- even though they respect Southern Culture and their family's past in the Confederacy.
In about 1968, we visited Dad's close cousins, Ruby (Kenan) Marsh and Fannie Kenan, near Burgaw, NC, and caught them preparing to go to a Daughters of the Confederacy meeting, so one of them said to Dad, "Bill, we have to go to our meeting because we're presenting two scholarships this year -- both of them to black girls, and we gave both to black girls last year -- because they EARNED THEM. But YOU wouldn't understand. You moved up North and turned YANKEE!!!
For the record, both had been local educators, and Ruby lived past her 100th year, Fannie still living at 96. And ALSO for the record, every one of us is descended from Murphy Kenan and Julia Caroline (Pridgen) Kenan. Murphy worked as an assistant to a physician and saved up for years and bought a slave pair which he immediately freed, being completely opposed to slavery (although he was quick to enlist for the Confederacy, and his big toe was shot off at Malvern Hill, VA).
And then Julia ended up being the Oldest Confederate Widow in North Carolina, and made money endorsing patent medicines because of her position. Beyond that, my fourth cousin Allan Gurganus, ALSO a gay rights advocate, VERY loosely based his book, Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All, on the pair of them.
And the 1989 TV movie won several Emmys -- including Cicely Tyson's first.

So anyway, I'm cool with the Stars and Bars!!!
(But NOT any Racism or other Hatred.)
