A Kenan getting an award from them is simply MASTURBATION!!!
My WORST NIGHTMARE (one of them): Kenan Charitable Trusts-dominated Chevron (formerly, Standard Oil of California), was chosen to have a fire that CONSIDERABLY REDUCED domestic refining capacity, driving up the price of gasoline in the US -- especially the West.
Of these other two Kenan-dominated oil companies, Chevron has the FAR "greener" reputation, is "GBLT-friendly", and is (for an oil company), almost cuddly. Exxon-Mobil, often acts ruthlessly, GUTTED Mobil (long Kenan-dominated since it was split off Standard Oil as Standard Oil Company of New York or Socony, while Exxon was the Flagship Kenan oil company and until I was in high school, was known as "Standard Oil", branding its gasoline Esso (S.O.)), of its LGBT-friendly policies when they merged about 1999.
Against this historical background -- YES, IF YOU DON'T LEARN FROM HISTORY YOU ARE BOUND TO REPEAT IT!!! -- an astute Republican would plot the fire, since in the EARLY months of this 2012, gas prices pushed $4.00/gal, and Republicans shouted "Drill, baby, DRILL!!!" -- which EFFECTIVELY cut President Obama's popularity -- DESPITE THE PROVABLE FACT that domestic NEW-drilling is up SHARPLY under Obama -- at least compared to under George W. Bush, who knew that Republicans have a PROVEN LIE MACHINE to turn high gas prices (which are actually FAR LOWER than in almost every other country in the WORLD!!!).
You see, if EXXON-Mobil had the fire, it would (given its reputation for ruthlessness), IMMEDIATELY be suspected by astute people of doing it to raise prices. That's why choosing Chevron limits the suspicion -- AND DEALS A BLOW TO KENAN CHARITIES PROFITS THAT GO TO SUPPORT EDUCATION, DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN DEMOCRACY, THE ARTS, ETC.
And see ALSO that although the Republicans have FOUGHT HARD to begin a Middle East War (bigger one involving Syria, etc) which would feed into the Abrahamic religions' belief (hope) for WORLD DESTRUCTION to pave the way for Yeshua, the Jewish prophet that they worship as an idol, who will return and fix what they have screwed up, AS WELL AS DRIVE GASOLINE PRICES TOWARD THE CEILING OR HIGHER.
Well, THIS is INDEED the END RESULT of Western (Christian-based) Society (which earlier killed off nearly all the natives in what is now the United States, then herded the remainer into Concentration Camps called
"Indian Reservations" -- addicting them to hi-test "fire-water" first, and later to Alaska Oil profits and Casino profits that they ALSO corrupted -- and THIS IS WHY it (Western Culture) must now be DESTROYED for people to find a NEW reality taking the BEST of what's been achieved (yes, including the BEST of Western Culture -- and there's A LOT!!!) -- and opening opportunity for ALL to both cooperate and compete for under Laws based on LIBERTY (freedom tempered by respect for the rights of others).
