I finally filled a gap: seeing a film by Rainer Werner

Fassbinder. That's how I discovered ‘Querelle’ (1982),

based on the novel ‘Querelle de Brest’ by Jean Genet,

starring Brad Davis, Franco Nero, Jeanne Moreau,

Günther Kaufmann, Hanno Pöschl, Laurent Malet,

Burkhard Driest.

The story of Querelle, a young sailor with a changing sexuality, who lands in Brest. Handsome and virile,

he attracts his superior, Lieutenant Seblon. He

frequents the Feria, a prostitutes' bar run by

Madame Lysiane, who is the mistress of Querelle's

brother, Robert.

Querelle wants to sleep with Lysiane and knows that

he must first submit to chance and play dice with

Nono, Lysiane's husband: if he loses, he must let

Nono sodomise him, which is the price he has to

pay to sleep with his wife, Lysiane.

Querelle deliberately loses at dice. He also gives

himself to a policeman and starts seeing a young murderer, Gil. Querelle has also previously killed

his accomplice in an opium deal... (summary

‘Querelle' was the last feature film by the prolific

German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder,

who died while editing the film.

I'm very impressed by this Franco-German feature

film, shot entirely in the studio and featuring the

port of Brest as one of its main settings. This

gives the film a dreamlike quality that is echoed

in the cinematography by Xaver Schwarzenberger.

It's also a difficult and disconcerting film, with a

literary and even theatrical side.

All the sexuality present here and dripping from the

film is never voyeuristic, which reinforces the

poetic side.

Brad Davis' plastic beauty only confirms his status

as a gay icon . However, it does require a great

deal of concentration to watch. I invite you to

discover it or to be watching it again.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover County has not seen the end of District Attorney Ben David after all.

David was named CEO and chief legal counsel of his endowment-funded Community Justice Center at Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting, two weeks ahead of his retirement as DA .

Board chair Michael McWhorter announced the CORONATION at the event, noting the board of directors, picked by the DA’s office and Harrelson Center leaders , offered the position to him at their meeting last night.

“And I accept!!!” David said to the clapping dozens in the audience, made up of prosecutors, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, and community supporters.

THIS FACEBOOK LISTING was SCRUBBED OFF by the CIA in 2017. On the left , is Dem Ben's twin brother, Repub D.A. Jon David of Brunswick County with him. I first found the above in 2011 !!!

And for several years, the Facebook Page listed exactly like the above image, had TONS of complaints posted on it -- with people discussing the troubles Ben David had "unfairly" given them.
