What caught my eye is your having written so well about my relative William Rand Kenan, Sr., who was the ONLY Confederate credited with breaching Washington, DC defenses and taking a clear shot at President Lincoln but missed him, killing his Aide, instead. Whether Mary Lincoln was out of town and Abe was dressed in drag at that time was not noted in the accounts I found, but the local newspapers teased Lincoln at that time for liking to dress in women’s clothes (that I assume he had to have tailored for his height). For the record, I am 6’ 11”, so seven inches taller than Abe Lincoln, and I’ve only dressed in drag ONCE in my life – at the 1981 Key West Fantasy Fest (as the Amazon Adulteress – green body paint, Nancy-red lips and “F-me” pumps, straight blond wig and my oversized aviator glasses made me the spitting image of Gloria Steinem), and that MIGHT have helped me snag my next job – after twelve years -- actually only 0.75 (zero point seven five) years in restaurant/bar management (but eventually 12 years total of it): I was the LAST assistant to Tennessee Williams, and eventually wrote a memoir about that, Walking on Glass: A Memoir of the Later Days of Tennessee Williams, which I now have published in blog format so anyone can read it for free: http://laterdaysoftennesseewilliams.blogspot.com/. I bring up sexual orientation because my Kenan Family is RIDDLED with Gay and Bisexual men (and fertile straight women), which is WHY there are about eight times as many non-Kenan-surnamed Kenans, as Kenans – a name that in the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary means “The Sadness” (depression), or “Unbridled Greed and Acquisitiveness”.
It was not clear if you realized that WRK, Jr., married a very nice and attractive – but “horsey” -- woman, who died young without bearing issue, and Kenan moved in with his life-long male secretary, Schuyler Beatty, until his death.

On one of my many visits to Liberty Hall in Kenansville, NC, https://libertyhallnc.org/, assistant curator Jeff Smith, was dumbfounded when I said WRK, Jr., MUST have been gay – and then he entirely agreed. Thomas S. Kenan III, the figurehead of the wealthy Kenans, who had been in charge of restoring Liberty Hall, is 13 years older than me, and is gay as a goose.
I actually dated Tom Kenan’s ex, Curtis “Robbie” Anderson, in 1985, while he lived in Kenan-built Carolina Apartments, which was re-named “Deep River Apartments”, to be the site of much of the film Blue Velvet. And THAT gives you a hint at how CREEPY my life as a Kenan has been – because I REFUSE to give up my integrity and get on board with the Kenan Family’s call to worship Jesus – and now Donald Trump, who Kenans, primarily, put into power. Frankly, I’ve been overwhelmed by the rush of Political Revelations the last few weeks, but tomorrow, November 8, 2019, at Kenan Plaza in downtown Wilmington – right by Kenan Memorial Fountain and Carolina Apartments – a new Historical Marker regarding the 1898 Insurrection is being dedicated. Here is a Facebook thread on it that you can see I have participated in most HEARTILY – LOL!!!
And I will be there tomorrow, to apologize for my Grandfather Joseph Emerson Kenan, Sr., participating in his teens – my branch is descended from a different of the three Kenan brothers, Ulster Scots who landed in Wilmington in the 1730s. And also, if no representative of the wealthy Kenans (best would be Thomas S. Kenan III and/or his stepmother, Betty (Price) Kenan), is there to apologize for their leading the Wilmington Insurrection with the white Christian Churches – and many Pastors of the still surviving Christian congregations – I will have a LOT to say about all of that.
I DOUBT they will let me speak from “the platform” to the whole crowd, but I am VERY BOSSY AND LOUD – and afraid of NOTHING (but do respect guns, knives, and “Big-Assed Christian Fist-Wielding Bullies”).
You see, just like he gave UNC Kenan Stadium in honor of his CRIMINAL, WHITE SUPREMACIST parents, William R. Kenan, Jr. gave the City the Kenan Memorial Fountain to honor them – and to First Presbyterian (that STILL will not allow black or brown members – but our District Attorney, three of the nine District Court Judges, and many others of our TOP RACIST OFFICIALS worship WHITE Jesus there), he and his sisters together gave the “Six-Foot Kenan Cock” (a rooster weather vane – symbol of the Protestant Reformation, and they REALLY do call it that in that church), atop Kenan Steeple (tallest in town by far), over Kenan Chapel with Kenan Pipe Organ and some of the FINEST Medieval stained-glass windows -- brought over by the Kenans from Europe.
I say, let the Presbyterian Church that ALSO boasts Donald Trump as a member, keep their dedications to the TOP RACIST EVER in North Carolina – but let’s RE-DEDICATE Kenan Fountain to the GIVER (this has been proposed by the Wilmington Star News, but no one has yet acted on it).
