THE RELAUNCH/REBRANDING OF THE FEAST GATHERING
Purpose:
The Feast Gathering was established in the Fall of 2018 as a way to create a brave and sacred space for individuals experiencing poverty. We gathered on the banks of the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington to offer this community a feast for body and soul, consisting of a physical and spiritual meal.
In the Spring of 2019, we relocated to the fellowship hall of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where we continued to develop and strengthen relationships within our community. By Spring of 2020, we were caught off guard by the pandemic. Like the rest of the world, we had to modify our gathering and recreate ourselves once again. Nonetheless, we have not strayed from our mission to centralize the voices of those within our community and not assume we knew what the needs were.
Somehow in the midst of COVID19, we grew leaps and bounds, adding several new opportunities for our community and those seeking to participate in the life of The Feast Gathering. We have now come to a place where we are reimagining what The Feast can be and offer. It is time for us to pivot and create another space to grow, love, and extend radical hospitality.
OUR REBRANDING:
Our new logo and motif is designed to spark interest and encourage action: fire
Fire requires work to ignite and keep burning: it needs air (spirit), fuel (food), and heat (warmth).
Fire deconstructs and refines our assumptions about poverty and those who are deeply affected by poverty.
Fire can also evoke feelings of friendship and community: a place to gather, talk, and share life.
OFFERINGS FOR 2021/2022:
Currently, we are blessed to operate within the walls of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; however, we have reached our capacity with the current resources we offer:
Prepare and provide eight meals a week
Clothes Closet
Washer and Dryer Trailer
Shower Trailer
Monthly Haircuts
Our future plan is to buy a building in the Downtown Wilmington area and call it The Feast Gathering Collective. Our one-stop shop will provide our current resources as well as:
A Day Center
Onsite Counseling
No-Stove Food Pantry
Occupational Therapy Services
Emergency shelter for inclement weather
Onsite Meals
Room to grow for future opportunities
CALL TO ACTION:
Our goal is to raise a nest egg to purchase a functioning building that will successfully meet our needs and establish a presence in Wilmington, NC. We need the full support of you all to make this dream a reality. Will you consider becoming a part of the Feast Fam and help accomplish our goal?
